Update on the money factor in The SH Community Tribute Project and why I left

silenthaven:

Because I didnt want to crowd Seperior-82’s awesome Room of Angel track so I wanted to make a separate post on this issue. I guess I need to clarify this:

By money factor I am referring to the discussion I had with the coordinator about him wanting to eventually have a hard copy of the project on disc which he said would be priced. Here is what he said on his blog, “Also, a quick note on pricing. The project will be free, or pay what you want. And perhaps at a later date, we can organise physical copies of the cd’s (likely) and the artbook (less likely) Single song downloads at a ‘pay-what-you-want’ option will be disabled, so, if anyone downloads your song on its own, separate from the album, they will have to pay at least $1, and if they do, you will get the money (unless you stipulate otherwise). This is what I am thinking. Any money made from the complete album will go towards getting physical copies of the project up and running. How does that sound? However, this may change if we adopt a completely free pricing model.” This is what I had an issue with. So the first release has the option of donation which is money and can infringe on copyright if whom ever might decide to peruse legal issues. My artwork was accepted for some reason since he denied others who had covers (a bit unfair) from the beginning until copyright issues came up and that now my work wasn’t accepted so I told him im out. There is only copyright issues if money is involved which as I said there is.

Please refer to my first post about my leaving. I wish all artists involved the best! Peace&Love SH Community!

So the cost of a license to mechanically reproduce the album is going to be high, it’s going to be difficult to organise the copyrights of all the contributors from different countries, and it’s going to be very expensive because of all the different copyrights people will have involved with the record.

Basically it’s a stupid idea it’s going to be a nightmare legally, and this is why fan works should be free, because it’s more hassle than it’s worth, there’s going to be a lot of problems and it’s going to be expensive as all hell if you’re going to make a physical CD run.

Seriously who thought that was a good idea? What happened to doing it because you have a passion for Silent Hill?
